CORTEFORTE

Carlo Cerutti is pragmatic yet passionate, soft spoken yet articulate. He loves his wines and loves to share them in the company of good friends. An attorney by practice, Carlo was drawn into the world of wine in 1990 when he purchased Corteforte, the Fortified Court, originally constructed in 1600 and set out to restructure the ruin. The vineyards surrounding the structure are planted with the traditional varietals used in the blend of Valpolicella Ripasso, Amarone and the great Reciotos. The vineyards that surround Corteforte have always been recognized as the best in the region since they are situated on a gentle slope that enjoys excellent exposure to the sun. Here the sun’s rays are absorbed from dawn to dusk, a fact reflected in the quality of the wines, in the rare aromas of roses, violets and almonds.

Beginning with the 1993 vintage, it was decided that thanks to their high quality it was appropriate to commence the commercialization of the wines as rare niche products, highly prized due to their very limited quantities. From the very first year of production, all of the wines of Corteforte (Amarone, Recioto Amandorlato, Valpolicella Classico Superiore, Il Sole, a sweet white wine from dried out grapes produced in tiny quantities) have achieved some of the most prestigious awards in Italy and abroad.
